Doubles "test" game.

Last week I was testing out a doubles scenario for a tournament I want to run next year.

I was suppose to team up with Trollbloods vs. Legion of Everblight and Cygnar.

Alas the Trollblood player was not able to make it so I had to settle with Pirates as my partners.

I took a Coleman Stryker list as he has Arcane Shield (+3 Arm), Blur (+3 Def against RNG + Magic), Snipe (+4 RNG) which can all be cast on Friendly models not just Friendly Faction.

My ally brought Shae the Pirate Man-Princess and his little gun, and yes the cannon is the best artillery piece in the game hands down.

We played that both players went simulatiously but only one player could active at a time. I am not sure if I like the way it is done in the book for a tournament as I think this could take to long. But we will try it out in the weeks that follow.

The scenario we played was Close Quarters, 2x 8 inch circles one on either side of the board and you have to capture the circle in your opponents half.

We played on a 4ftx4ft table with 35pt list to see if it would be enough space. I think there was enough but did not ask the guys afterwards how they felt.

SO to the game.

Table had 5 pieces of terrain, and nice forrest in the middle and hill in the one deployment zone, a bunch of rocks in another, a swamp/pond on the right and a wall to the left but to the back.

C+M got first turn and deployed their armies on the left side of the board. Chad had one of every Carni variant, a Seraph and 2 shepherds. Martin had 2x Hunters, Arlan Strangeways, Squire, Journeyman, defender, ironclad, charger and 2 storm smiths. I am not sure what they were attempting

We deployed with Ivor taking up the left flank and myself covering their score circle to the right.
I had Coleman, Ol' Rowdy, Squire, Reinholt, Stormblades +ua +stormclad, Arlan Strangeways, Black 13, Storm tower and a Journeyman, Ivor had Cannon, Mangler, Dirty Meg + freebooter, Lady Ainia and Master Holt, Hawk, the bosun, Doc, Rockbottom and a full unit of Seadogs with master Walls.

I deployed the Tower and Storm everything on the right close to the objective point. The B13 on the far left and everything else in the middle. We put the cannon in the middle and his army spread out across the board. The Freebooter having Amphibious deployed by the water, because he didn't care :) .

First Turn they move up and put spiney growth on everything. Also puts Arcane shield on the Ravagor (Big Carni with Range) could not do anything else.

We moved the sea dogs out of the cannons way but did not need to as we were shooting at bigger based models, the seadogs shot at the Ravagor but at Arm 21 did nothing. The Cannon shot the scythean and slammed it back into the charger and thagrosh. The Journeyman put AS (Arcan Shield) on the freebooter. B13 moved up and shot the one stormsmith off the board (First blood was ours) and put the 4inch pow 12 cloud effect into play in front of his army. moved everything else up to get into position.

2nd Turn Chad shoots bunched up sea dogs and kills most of them and puts 3 on fire. Lucky for us Hawk made the fearless. The Corrosion cloud effect remained in play. Martins hunter moved up and took 5 damage from the pow 12 cloud and for all his effort missed the freebooter. The 2nd hunter managed to move up and hit but with AS it was -6 to his roll and I think he did 4 damage. Chad moved his beasts into the woods so that he could move to the objective next turn and staying out of site of the cannon.

We then realised that Shaes feat says all friendly models. and he has Coup de main which effects all friendly models....Mwahahaha. That is a 3" move for his feat and pathfinder + 2" extra movement and charge for free because of Coup De Main this gives every freindly model +5 movement. SO we took liberties and moved everything up. I charged the stormclad into the Ravagor (Because he had As and not Spiney Growth which could hurt the Jack) did dismal damage because of thaggy's -2Str and my Awesome dice rolls. The stormblades moved in and engaged the Scytheon but again at P+S 13 with no charge did minimal damage.
Arlan moved onto their circle. I wasn't watching Ivor to muct but nearly everything of his ran across the board and engaged Martins models. Hawk even took out Martins Journeyman, We should have done this first because the Ravagor would have been arm18 instead of 21 so I could have done more damage. the Cannon shot the seraph pushing it away from the object leaving the charger the only contesting model. The Seadogs managed to take the Seraph out afterwards. Coleman charged the Charger and because he had storm rager on him from Shae (+2 to hit and damage) e waisted the little guy. I then put AS on myself and called my feat (+5 Arm, friendly faction in CTRL) putting Coleman on Arm 26 (Base 15 + 5 Feat + 3AS + 3 Focus) + Def 18 because Ol' Rowdy came running into BTB. 1 VP to us

Turn 3 I was not watching the other side of the board as I was focused on what Chad was going to inflict on my guys. First off he double handed throws my Stormclad at coleman, missing and scattering back on to the Stormblades, Because of the feat they were arm 20 so none died but knocked 3 down. Thaggy moved in and ash clouded 2 of them and killed 3 in total. see a opening the Ravagor charged at Arlan on their objective but suffered a free strike from the last standing stormblade. With -5 to my roll I still managed 7 damage and took out body and spirit (Chad did not see this before he charged) so the ravagor made both attacks needing 6 on 1 dice and failed both...Arlan was sweating. I noticed that hawk was dead and Ivor Jacks were beaten badly. I also noticed that martin had moved a hunter into the control circle. Chad charge the Scythean into the Bosun who had help coleman kill the charger last turn. Bosun died and Scythean hit out at a sea dog killing him as well. then he took a swing at coleman boosting to hit and damage and inflicting 2 damage. I was disgusted. Chad moved in a shepherd to also help contest.

Our turn and we had to get the Scythean, Shepherd and Hunter away from our objective so we could win. I decided to let all upkeeps drop and pulled a focus from the squire gave 3 to Ol' Rowdy and started the turn. Basically read it like this no one else could make it to the objective in time to help. So rockbottom gave a coin to the cannon crew for +2 Ranged attack and damage rolls. They then slammed the hunter back, but not far enough, and killed the last sea dogs in the process. Lady Aiyana moved and cast Kiss of Lyliss (+2 to damage on the model) on the Scythean. Maser Holt shot at him and inflict 5 pts of damage. Ol' Rowdy moved into combat with the Hunter and Scytean and killed the hunter and beat into the Scythean Leaving him with 1 black left. Coleman moved in and finished the job. Now we had a Shepard that only two models could get to the Journeyman (Rat4) and Shae (Rat6) so the journeyman tried first and missed (Dammit) then I remembered Reinholt and moved him to Shea for a reload. Shea moved up and shot, hitting the Shepard and killing her. 2 VP to us. Game.

What I learnt. Doubles is actually much better I think because it is not all about caster kill. Especially with us as we only had 1 Jack on each caster so it would be a loss of only 2 models, still making us semi effective. Also Cygnar and Mercs are very well suited to playing together as we both have quite a few Friendly spells and not Friendly faction.

I really enjoyed it and the mission was a nice one for doubles games as you need to attack and defend which leads to awesome team work.

Stryker and 'ol Rowdy.

So the other night I faced off against a Sorcha list that I lost against at our Nationals.

I have never owned 'ol Rowdy before and decided to borrow a friends and see how he works with eStryker.

After this last game I now understand why they feature together in more than one picture.

I had a fun game waiting for someone to charge me but alas he never did the Def18 really made him think twice. The moving up together is quite tricky, trying to keep Coleman behind Rowdy all game.
Coleman trying to stay behind 'Ol Rowdy

Next time I play I will just leave him in front of Rowdy as his Def18 should save him from most slam/charge attacks and if they hit Coleman and not Rowdy then Rowdy can walk in and hit them down. Also thought of a tactic that I charge eColeman into combat and beat everyone down and call his feat. Then get Rowdy to charge stryker and Tremor knocking everyone except himself and stryker down. Now they get to move and make one attack on the knocked down models....auto hit can can boost. Awesome.

Tonight we will testing out the doubles format that I want to use at one of my tournaments next year. Will be Cygnar/Trolls vs. Cygnar/Legion. Will take pics and put it up here.

Man, I need a new case.

So I really need a new case to transport my Cygnar in because the small hard GW case that I currently use is getting a bit too small. So I am looking at either a Sabol or Battle Foam Bag for Christmas.

I really like the look of them both.

Sabol Army Transport

Battle Foam PP bag.

The Sabol bag is half the price of the Battlefoam but I have seen a few reviews saying that the strap seems to give at the most opportune times. I suppose the price will leave me with $70 to buy new straps but do I really want to worry about that. Also the Battle Foam comes with a very nice front pouch with the card sleeve holder (almost like a ring binder) and space for all my niche items that we all seem to have and use.

I will have to see what my christmas bonus looks like and hopefully I'll get myself a bag to Kelvin from Kelvin.

Food Machine. Gauteng - South Africa (Results)

So we had our Local Foodmachine on the 6th.

I had my doubts about this event as we only had 5 registered players until 3 days before the event. I started to beg and plead for participants. On Friday afternoon we had 16 registered players.

Day arrived and I was late thanks to my wife deciding to come sit with me for the day (Mistake on her part) and needing to drop my spawn off at my folks who were driving up to my Ouma's (Grandmother) 90th.

Get to the event and I have 10 players already waiting. Because Total Gee was suppose to be running the event with me i thought he would be at the event already and all I would have to do is set up my PC with our local home grown TO program and input the names. Alas it was not to be TG was not to be found and the tables needed to be set up. With the venue not being my local I was not sure what I could use and what I couldn't. Lucky for me the club members are awesome guys and we had the tables set up in no time.

At 9:00 I get a call from TG that he had slept through his alarm, so I was on my ace where I was only ment to assist.

Set up all the players and we had 10 at the start of the event. Matched them all up and off we went.

I must say that we had some very liberal players who used up most of their cans in the first game. Was awesome to watch as some guys would pay up to 8 cans (of food) to get the roll that they wanted only to have their opponent pay a single can to have them re-roll.

We had at late entry and TG arrived, in a very hung over state, so I paired them off. so that we would have even numbers.

We had 4 awesome rounds of gaming with TG (Ryan, Retribution) vs. Ronald (Legion) squaring off in the final. Man was it epic TG had a 32 can re-roll which means he had 6 re-rolls in a single turn. Came down to the wire and with dice down called Ronald walked away with the Gold Coin.

Total Gee did manage to spend the most cans for the day with a total of 151 Cans being brought to the club on Sunday afternoon.

Results
Tins of food Raised: 491

Player standings:
1) Ronald - Legion of Everblight
2) Marco - Cryx
3) Ryan - Retribution of Scryh
4) Sean - Cryx
5) Nuno - Mercs
6) Eli - Trollbloods
7) Robert - Protectorate of Menoth
8 ) Dewan - Mercs
9) Mike - Trollbloods (Only arrived in round 3, won both games)
10) Evan - Cryx
11) Warren - Legion of everblight
12) Victor - Khador
13) Martin - Cygnar
14) Donovan - Trollbloods (Played 1 Game, thnx for the cans)

Awesome event and looking at this I think I should try get my Breast Cancer Brawl off the floor. I tink next year I'll run it in the middle of the year so as not to clash with the next Foodmachine.

Food Machine. Gauteng - South Africa

Ryan Keyser (PG_TotalGee) has asked me to assist him in running a food machine event on the 6th of November. Info Here!

This is a very awesome event started by NJ SOBS.

The event allows you to cheat during your games by donating cans of food. One example is that you can donate 1 can for a re-roll of dice once per turn and the extreme is for 10 cans you can have a opponent lose advance deploy on a unit or have +1 MAT, RAT, DEF, ARM on any non-character beast or 'jack.

I am really looking forward to this event as all the proceeds will go to the TLC home for abandoned orphans, most of the children a HIV/AIDS orphan which is really sad.

Without the care and love given to the kids from the staff at the home I really don't think they would have gotten as far in life as they have. Lets hope this event is a great success.

So far we only have a handful of players but knowing our local community they will only wake up in the last week.

Press Ganger application on its way!

Ok so last night I got my Cryx Battle Box finished. I am very happy with the way they came out. I am a bit sad that I have no clue on how to blend so the "furnace" green is very flat. A friend did offer to do it for me but I decided against it. I also have a gripe with the Denegra model, What the hell where the sculptors thinking when they made those tiny blades on her back. One fell off before painting and my son managed to break another one off just before i took the pictures.

I took pictures of both battle boxes so I thought I should put up my finished Cygnar as well.

Lets hope that the application is approved so that we can start partaking in the international campaigns and so that I can get our little community on the international Radar.

Local is Lekker!

June last year I wrote this little piece, it was all about how our LGS' don't give us the time of day and have awful mark-ups on their prices. It also highlighted the time that it took to get our models.

I have been using a very well know online retailer from the UK and have had very little hassles with them beside them being so busy that they run out of Pre-order stock before they have even get all their pre-orders out which increases my waiting time by +/- 2 weeks, while thay wait for more stoke from PP in the US.

A couple of months ago a fellow gamer, seeing how Warmahordes was taking off, decide to start his only little PP stocked shop. He has call it Tribal Games. Granted the site might need to be re-vamp and needs a serious stock update but for now it is a start. With our exchang rate never being as stable as other countries I can understand why he would be reluctant to put prices on his site when our currency strengthens/weakens against the dollar 4 or 5 times a day.....Love you 3rd world.

One thing I must say is that he has really helped us, and I mean a lot, with prize support. He has bought tournament coins and given very nice vouchers in support of our events. Last weekend 1st place got a floating trophy, with the resin slayer on top, R200 ($30) voucher and a gold coin. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Update on PG Challenge:
This photo was taken last night before the army painter dip had a chance to dry. I will need to dry brush/highlight a bit this afternoon and get some matt varnish on him to take away the shine.

Tonight is gaming night so if I have no challengers I will start on Dene and try get her out of the way.

Hopefully we will have our PG applications through before the end of the month......man I want a WM T-Shirt.

Pressganger Challenge!

So I have officially challenged Ryan Keyser (Northern suburbs PG wannabe). The challenge is to get our Pressganger membership before the end of the year so that we can have an awesome Warmahordes tournament season next year.

He replied by saying that he will have his 2nd battle box painted up by the end of next week, dammit for not choosing Khador as well, so not to be outdone I accepted the challenge and have started painting the Cryx starterbox that I bought for my lovely wife (lets hope she's reading this).

I had already assembled them about 2 months ago and had given them a black base coat so the base work was done.

As you can see on the slayer I am going for a Catachan Green base. It looks very nice with the shining gold and boltgun metal. I will finish off the base colours tonight and get the Army painter dip on.

Here is a WIP of the slayer, once i have him done I will know what my scheme is and Ill do the chickens together.

Out come the wolves:
On a side note, we had a tournament this past weekend and it was my worst placing since starting WM.

I came 9th out of 12 Players. I played 6/7 games as I had to attend my son's first school concert.

I played well but made really silly mistakes against models that I do not see in my local Meta. Who knew Mage Hunter assassins could be that insane, or that Terminus would be able to fly past everything and kick eStryker in the face......oh well wont happen again.

ICON 2010.

ICON is South Africa's Gencon. It is held in a hall in the north of Johannesburg in July every year. It has about 10 Vendors and 2 rooms of Magic players, a marquee and hall for Roleplayers, a hall for Fantasy Players and outside in the sunshine the 40K guys get to play. This year the Fantasy turnout was not so great so the warmachine guys got put in with them.

I know it isn't even a 10th of any overseas Cons but it is all we have.

It was a hectic weekend. 4 Games on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.

The Saturday games were played with normal steam roller rules.

Game 1 (Mathew Putter, Everblight, Rhyas) Killbox

Played: Kraye

Man this was a fast. He moved everything up and started harassing my army. I got a "Feat-turn" charge off with my centurion and missed with 3 attacks....man it was unlucky. I did manage to kill the Carni with transfers. I was about to start my next turn when dice down was called and because he had more points in the box I lost...oh well.

Game 2 (Henry Haung, Skorne, Xerxis) Capture the Flag.

Played: Kraye

I can not deal with ARM 22 8 damage block models and this army was full of them this was just one game/army that I looked at and could not think of a way to defeat it...I went for the beasts to try remove all the fury but alas I failed and the way Henry played Xerxis he was very fury efficient. I called my feat with the Ceturnion and the Stormclad charging the front weapon master, multi-wound guys with shield wall and did not kill a single model, i missed most of my attack rolls. This game I lost as well.

Game 3 (Nuno Afonso, Pirates, Bart) Outflank, Outfight, Outlast.

Played: pNemo

Nuno is still trying to figure out his Pirates and has only played a hand full of games. This was a easy enough game for me. I felt bad when I pulsed and only 2 pressgangers survived.....taking Doc and The Boson down with them. I had the two points at the end of his 2nd turn. We carried on playing for fun and I pulsed once more on to Bart and sustained into him till he was dead.

Game won with Max CP.

Game 4 (Mike Geyser, Trollbloods, Grim Angus) The Gauntlet

Played: Kraye

This game is the best game I have had to date. Man is was Hard. Once again High Arm and multiple wounds. He had the stone bearer a full unit of Champs and the battle box with a mauler.
Once again I called my feat and charged the mauler with the Centurion hoping to take him out and hit the champs with the stormclad. WOW, hit the mauler twice out of 5 with 3 dice. Did some damage but was unable to kill him....the Stormclad took out 2 champions but they mad their tough rolls. My hunters were moving along the flank trying to get to Grim but had two Impalers after them.

I the end he move grim up with his force and took out everything but Kraye and the sentinel had 4 blocks left. While the Impaler's moved to hit the Hunters, he critical slammed one of them but missed the other. We both noticed at the exact same time that he had moved EVERTHING out of his box and the smile on my face said it all.

I knew the champs and the mauler would hit Kraye next turn so I moved the Sentinel up to block the path. I then had the hunter run up and moved the other hunter its 6 inches into the box scoring me a point.

He now had 3 beasts on full fury and left the Impaler's with 1 each and one failed its threshold check and frenzied into the other doing a nice bit of damage. The unfrenzied impaler moved into the box and tried to Crit slam one of the hunter out of the box but failed thanks to them being on a hill so Def 16. He also move Grim back on to the edge of the box. He charged the champs in and because of the Sentinel , which died, and only 2 got to Kraye sitting on 4 focus (Arm 21). He then Pushed the Mauler to the max and charged into Kraye. He beat him around like a rag doll but wasn't able to kill him, he even tried to headbutt me but I just smiled thanks to Steady. The axer then tried with a charge but missed with an attack leaving Kraye with 2 wounds left.

I then assigned 2 focus to each Hunter. Slammed the impaler with the 1st hunter out of the box. and walked up to Grim with the 2nd and pushed him out of the box.

Game won with Max CP.

Now because of the two excellent wins I was in the top 8 which allowed me to play in the Hardcore on the Sunday.

SO Sunday was Hardcore....5 min turns.

This was the most intense gaming I have done in a long time, I do not think this is my cup of tea but I will give it another go in future. All games were played with my pNemo list as it was
fully painted.

Game 5 (PJ, Circle of Orboros, Mohsar)

The game went very well I could have stopped the assassination run if I was paying more attention but Alas I failed on my own attempt and got beaten buy a blind old man. Lots of things went a bit wrong but I haven't faced Circle properly before. I will just need to go through their stuff for next time.

Game was lost and so I was knocked out.

Game 6 (Chad Parsons, Everblight, PThaggy)

I'n this game I realised how horrible the time limits/priorities are I charged with my Stormblades into his units and did some nice damage but ran out of time before I could move the THead up and use the 5 focus I had on him to force Thaggy to transfer. In the end something happened to Nemo and I lost.....its all a blur.

For the 7th Game the bottom 4 from the Harcore got shifted back into the Sunday Steamroller double game (Because I begged like a little girl).

Game 7 (Mathew, Everblight, Rhyas & Martin, Protectorate of Menoth, pSev) Doubles, Destruction

I played my pNemo and my team mate Thomas playe Magnus the Traitor.

This was a fun game of cat and mouse. With Nemo on 10 focus a turn it was so awesome. Thomas went for the everblight while I took on Sevy. I was lucky enough to make it into his lines and cause insane destruction with minimal casualties but alas Magnus' force got horribly beaten and our first pillar got destroyed by the Raptors. After i had taken the pillar on my sid of the board I split my for into 2 so that I could defend our pillar and hunt done thiers. He hit the pillar with the Raptors and it had 3 damage blocks left. I went after them with the THead and was able to kill them.

In the end I had my THead, Stormclad, Stormblades, Arlan and pNemo left and Mathew had a Seryph and Rhyas left. He conceded the victory.

In the end it was a awesome weekend but I think 1 day events are the way to go with Warmachine as this does not wear you out as much....I was in bed but 20:30 on Sunday night.

As you can see there were more Hordes players than WM. Really weird as I thought there were more WM players in the area. I was a bit sad to see that no members of a club in the West of Johannesburg decided to come, seen as though there are 10+ players in their group.

I was talking to some of the new players and they are really enjoying the game but seem to believe that Legion of Everblight is the "WHFB Daemons" of Warmahordes. I don't really find them to be that over powered as what everyone says but I suppose with 1/2 the hordes players being LoE players and 4/5 lists having a Angelius, Carnie, Typhon and Seraph that sould say something about those 4 warbeasts. Sad seen as thought there were two Cygnar players, playing Kraye, we still had completely different builds.

Other than the 5 LoE players there was a nice mix of factions and all except the merc's were present. I had a fun time playing Kraye, I took a pNemo list as well, and really like his hit and run style of play.

I will post in the week about my games, hopefully tomorrow before I forget to much :P .

Until next time...

Pendrake....

A friend of mine wants to use Pendrake in his Troll lists for this Saturday and Icon, so he asked if he could use mine. I said no problem but he will have to paint him up as I don't have the time to do it myself.

Lucky Varsity students have stacks of time on their hands so he finished him in a day.

As for Saturday...Man am I excited we will have 18+ players, This is the biggest event since WM started in South Africa. I would like to say a special thanks to GW for driving their loyal fans away.

The PDF's today confirmed that they really don't give a damn about balance....If only someone would buy my Tomb Kings from me.

Nemo and the local pet.

Thought I would put up a picture of pNemo and the Squire. Finished them a while ago but never got around to taking photo's.

We will be playing our last bit of games tonight before Saturday Show Down (A local event). There will be 14+ players which is the biggest event since Warmahordes has taken off in South Africa and it will count towards National Rankings. I am really looking forward to it. I just hope that I don't make silly mistakes like I did at Warcon. (Forgot to assign focus with Nemo on a critical turn)

I will be taking Kraye and pNemo. I have been working on a Kraye list for a while now and I want to play as much as I can before ICON.

I will make sure the camera is charged and get some photo's for the blog.

I smell bacon!

OMW have you seen this!

He is one mean pig. Story goes he hacked and sliced his way up the food chain and is now one bad ass Farrow warcaster.

This guy looks like someone had his mother for breakfast and he is out to find them.

I have already decide to get Rorsh and Brine for my Cygnar. Gives me a bit of Hordes flavour in my Warmachine list. So when Lord Carver over here is release I will have some Farrow already and not feel too bad.

So i promised some feedback from Warcon.

Well my lists were:
pNemo
Stormclad
Thunderhead
Lancer
Squire
Stormblades (6)
Arlan Strangeways
Journeyman
Stormsmith

and

a pHaley list that I cant remember for the life of me.

Game 1: Ricky (eStryker) Mission: Convergence

This was a very fun 1st game I wiped his trenchers off the board with pulse while I walk within 6" of old rowdy, How i here you ask, I voltic snared the hunter next to him and so he was helpless. I maintained the snare for 3 rounds before the hunter got the arcnode off the Lancer.

I learnt that only the base armor is halved and I had Arcane shield on him so it was -7 to his damage rolls.

It was all going so well, i had Nemo at the back casting spells and filling up the jacks but then eStryker hit the turbo button on his suit and moved out of combat with the T-Head missed my Free strike and he charged off into Nemo with +8str for 4 damage...It only took 1 swing and the old man was down.

Good game had a blast. Got 1 CP.

Game 2: Hannes (pIrusk) Mission: Kill Box

This was one of those games that you just had to smile. Hannes games at our LGC so we know each other well and I knew his list was as hard as nails.

He deployed first so I knew he would be in the box waiting for me. To my surprise he didn't move Irusk on the 1st turn but he was still only 4" out side the box. I moved up trying to get some cover and block LOS.

His 2nd turn he moves Irusk to the side of the board and I just look at the TO and shake my head...it didn't matter what he did next because when he said i could go I just looked at him and shook his hand. He was not impressed with himself but I did tell him twice what the mission was so no excuses.

We carried on playing just for the heck of it and he proceeded to wipe me off the board. I felt really bad for him.

Game 3: Charles (Harbi) Mission: Capture the Flag

This was the first time I had face a proper Menoth player and Harbi at that and all I can say is MAN WHAT A PAIN IN THE AR$E!!!

I took Hayley for this game and it went well besides me shooting my entire 12man long gunner squad into her force 2 shots a turn a 3 feat turn he still got into combat and started beating on my stormblades. It was a close game as "dice down" was called just as I had my hunter run to capture his flag.

Game ended with a win to me with 1 CP.

Game 4: Nuno (Bart) Mission: Outflank, Outfight, Outlast

I must just say that Nuno had been to our LGC for three practice games before taking part in Warcon.

This game really disappointed me. I pulled a Hannes on myself. I moved my units into position so that I could capture the points in the next turn but did not see the Buccaneer charge with dirty meg that locked up my units while his Freebooter sat on the control point. Tick at the end of his turn and I did my best to get my units/jacks across to the point but alas...tick, he won. He did not even notice I just looked at him at the end of his turn and said well done.

So this was my 2nd loss but I did manage 1 CP.

So at the end of day 1 I had 2\0\2 and 3 CP. Not too bad as there was only one player who had won all his games so far and he was my 1st game on the Sunday.

To be continued.........

I did a write up on the 2nd day but it was wiped with my hard drive, I doubt i will get back to it as I now cant remember what happened exactly.

Is this thing on?

Sorry that its been dead, been a bit busy with RL stuff like WoW and Paintball and Warmachine.

So in March I had my Steamroller event. We had a decent turnout and played our 4 rounds.

The winner was Ryan Keyser with his RoS list.
He used Rahn and a nice Mittens list. Worked very well and he got CC in each round.

2ND was Charles with a Menoth Harby list. It was awful to call dice down on the game between 2ND and 3rd but I had to. otherwise Harby could have sat there for days, man is that lil girl insane if you can get her in cover.

3rd was Mark with a Siege list from hell. He executed it very well.

Everyone had fun and i have got the models to mount on the trophies I just need to get it all painted up in gold, silver and bronze.

April was a quiet month we had UPCON in Pretoria (1hrs drive from us) I did not attend and the results have not been posted on our local forums so I can't say who won.

In April we did close the doors to our club. It was cost R1000 a month to rent the spot and the guy paying the rent was not doing anything to get income, so I told him to rather pack up and move into my garage.

Lets just say its worked out well for the both of us. My wife doesn't complain about me having to go out on Game night and the ex-payee now has to travel 20km less a week to play games also he has his weekends free to do as he likes.

This month we had Warcon in Kensington at Warfair. The Warzon club members ran the event and it was great seeing all three major systems at one well run event. There were less participants because the die-hards played their favourite GW system so we only had 8 players. I would just like to mention that this was 2 less than the WHFB players which is a huge shock. You normally have between 12-20 WHFB players at these events.

I will right up about my games in another post forcing me to at least make another post in the next week.

So what is planned for June/July:

Well My wife has told me that she will try WM so I will most likely buy her a starter box of one of the factions.

With that starter box I want to apply for Press Ganger membership so that I can get some prize support for my tourneys that I run.

We will also be playtesting our lists for ICON (The largest convention in RSA).

Feb comes to a close.

So February has come to a end and I was able to completely paint up my 15pts for March. I must say this is a major achievement for me. I have had my Cygnar since 2004 and I have only really started painting now.

I made a decision over the weekend that I will be selling my Tomb Kings. I have them sitting in the garage in my carry case collecting dust. I have sort of given up on GW, they write a very solid rules system but break it with their silly Army books. I do not have much time to waist and so I'll stick to the more customer friendly Privateer Press.

So I played a 15 point game against trolls last night and all I can say is multiple wound ARM 16+ models are a real pain.

He had:
Madrak
Axer
Axer
Champion Hero
3x Champions

I had my normal list.

It was a real meat grinder and we were both rolling awful. In the end it was Coleman staring down Madrak and the Hero.

My Charger worked very hard. He took out all the Champions and even received a charge from the Hero only to hold him up until the end of the game. After the game my opponent tried to convince me that Coleman was a bit too strong in that he took down 1 1/2 Axer's by himself. I said the Madrak could do the same if he needed to and it was just me using my focus wisely.

So what is install for March:
I am holding a Steam Roller event on the 12th call Smackdown '10. It will be using the steam roller format but with 35pt lists. We will do 50pts next year when people are more vet at this.
I have ordered a Mauler and some Shredders and will be buying some wood to make trophies. Gold Mauler, Bronze and Silver Shredders. I did buy a Ironclad (To go with the Mauler) and a Agonizer for Last place but I want them for myself rather.

I have Pledged to paint:
pNemo
Squire (Which i did while watching Blade Trinity Last night, Thank you Army Painter...my hero)
Stormblades + UA
Stormclad
And something special for the guys at the club.

Lucky for me I have my Army Painter so it should not take me forever to finish the models its just finding the time to sit and paint in the first place. I will try to get more games in this month by traveling to the other, more lively, clubs.

We are also playing in our 2nd Paintball league this month...so wish us luck.

So until next time.....

Nearly Done with Feb.

So we are nearly done with Feb and I have only got 1 other game in. This is not from my lack in trying it just seems hard to get our local gamers to commit to anything. Very sad but true.

I have finished up Coleman and Journeyman Warcaster Jess. I still have to do my Lancer and Charger but they have been sitting at 50% for at least a year now.

I will be adding a unit of Stormblades to my April list to get me to 20pts. I have also ordered myself the new pNemo sculpt and the Thunderhead. Which I will work into my list somehow.

I am thinking along the lines of:

pNemo +6

Thunderhead 11

Ironclad 7

Journeyman 3

Charger 4

Stormsmith 1

My second game was a disaster. I played against Shae and his pirate crew. It them 2 turns to get to Coleman and kill him....I was very sad.

I played my first paintball league on Sunday and we managed to come 7/8. I would have preferred to have come 8th because than we would have gotten a wooden spoon prize. Oh well.

Until next time...

Coleman vs. Feora (Cygnar vs. Protectorate of Menoth)

So I had my first 15pt game for our SA "Grow" League today and man was it close.

*I just need to mention the it was the first time I had face Feora and did not know her spells that well and Hannes had only bought her yesterday. I know I should have checked her spells before play. We played "Engine of Destruction" as a Upkeep/can be cast on friendly models spell. Oops!

So let’s begin.

P1: Feora, PoM

Feora
Repenter
Revenge
Vanquisher
Deliverer Sunburst Crew

P2: Coleman, Cygnar

Coleman
Lancer
Ironclad
Journeyman Warcaster
Charger
Stormsmith

Deployment:
Field Layout. Many walls to hide behind, a forest 3 inches out of my deployments zone and a hill in his deployment zone.
P1: Had the Repenter and Sunburst on the right and Revenger on the left with the Vanquisher in the middle with Feora behind it. (not everything was in her CTRL radius so the force was grouped close.)
P2: Ironclad on the left of forest, stormsmith in front of forest, Coleman and JWC behind the forest with Charger and Lancer to the right.

Turn 1
Moved everything forward, cast Engine of Destruction on the Vanquisher and Hexes Hammer.
Stormsmith ran off into the woods staying out of LOS of his lovely Arc-node. Everyone Moved up. JWC cast Arcane Shield on the Charger to boost it incase of incoming fire. Coleman cast snipe on the Charger, this was a Doh! moment when you realize what a waist as the Arcane Shield then expired and he cast Arcane shield on his Lancer.

Turn 2
Upkeep both Spells. Gave 1 focus to each Jack and ran them up behind the walls to buff Def. Moved up Feora and Sunburst.
Upkeep Snipe. Gave 1 focus to Ironclad and 3 to the Charger. Charger then moved up to the wall on my side of the board and shot at the Repenter. needing 10 on 3 dice (Boosting) I missed the 1st shot and paid for a 2nd which managed to do 2 damage. Had he Ironclad run up the Left flank and moved the Lancer into a better LOS position. Coleman activated and cast Earthquake at the Vanquisher behind the Wall. I missed but was lucky to deviate towards Feora 2", knocking her and the Revenger and the Vanquisher down. Moved the Stormsmith to the edge of the forest and attempted to hit the Vanquisher but was out of range.

Turn 3
Upkeep E0D and gave the Vanquisher 1 Focus, Sunburst shot at the Charger (Def 17, needing 10) but missed and scattered hitting the JWC for 4pts and the Charger for 1...man was that close. The Repenter moved forward and took a shot at the Lancer but missed. The Vanquisher spent his focus to shake the effects of EQ and shot at the Stormsmith with his aiming bonus but still missed the template deviated 4" so no blast damage on the old man. Feora stood up and spent a focus to shake the Effects of EQ and moved to the right a bit. She then Arched Immolation onto the Ironclad but missed only needing a 6...Hannes was having no luck with his Cygnar dice against me so out can the Khador dice :)
No Upkeep. Put 2 Focus on the Ironclad and 3 on the Charger. Stormsmith moved up out of the safety of the forest (Life of a stormsmith is cheap) and disrupted the Vanquisher. Coleman cast EQ on the Vanquisher again and this time HIT! taking down Feora, the Vanquisher and the Revenger. Coleman the shot the Repenter disrupting it and scratching the paint for 2 points. Coleman ended his activation by calling his feat. The JWC moved in behind the forest and away from his trainee Charger. The Charger then shot at the Repenter doing 17pts with 2 boosted shots. The Ironclad then charged the Vanquisher and did 15 pts with is 3 attacks.

Turn 4
Upkeep EoD. The Repenter moved up and shot at the Lancer and covering the Stormsmith as well but missed on both rolls....I think this rolled killed a bit of his spirit. The sunburst shot at Coleman and hit him square on causing 6pts of Damage thanks to his feat. The Revenger moved into LOS of Coleman. The vanquisher stood up and took a swing at the Ironclad only dinging it for 1pt. Feora set up a Wall of Fire in front of Coleman making sure I do not come forward knowing that I could not move back otherwise I would be out of CTRL range with the Ironclad. Feora ended her turn by calling Scorched Earth which put Coleman, The Stormsmith, Ironclad and the Lancer on fire.
Continuous Effects: Stormsmith died, Lancer took 3pts, Ironclad 4pts and Coleman took 2pts.
I assigned 1 focus to the charger and 3 to the Ironclad. The ironclad then climbed into the Vanquisher doing 21pts of damage and taking it out of the Game with 1 focus to spare. The Charger then shot the Repenter doing a luck 10pts taking it out of the game as well. The Lancer moved towards Feora and the JWC cast Arcane Shield on Coleman before he Shot the Revenger doing no damage but disrupting it so that the arch-node was useless.

Turn 5
The Sunburst shot at Coleman but missed deviating into the woods doing no damage. Feora then shot at the Lancer, missing with her first attack and boosting the 2nd to do 3 pts. She then cast EoD on the Revenger. the Revenger then walked up to Coleman and did 3pts of damage because Coleman had Arm 21 (AS+3Foc).
Continuous Effects: Coleman took 3pts (Leaving 5 boxes) while the Ironclad took nothing and the fire burnt out on the Lancer. Upkeep the AS on Coleman from the JWC. I then Assigned 1 focus to the Ironclad, 3 to the lancer and 2 to the Charger. The charger fired its first shot at Feora but missed as it was OOR and took its 2nd shot at the Revenger in combat with Coleman and did 2 pts, If I had missed I could have easily killed Coleman. Coleman then hit the Revenger for 7pts and got pushed back out of Combat range. The Ironclad ran in BtB with Feora while the Lancer moved in and took a boosted swing at Feora, even boosting the DMG roll I only did 6pts I then missed with the 2nd attack.

Turn 6
Upkeep of EoD. The sunburst shot at the Charger and missed deviating only a inch but doing no damage. The Revenger then swung at Coleman with its shield and missed and again with its spear and missed, this needing 6's to hit. Feora then activated and tried to cast Blazing Effigy on the Revenger costing her 4Foc but the gamble didn't pay off as it was out of range (This could have won him the game). Feora then attacked the Ironclad and hit both times but did no damage.
Continuous Effects: Coleman took 3pts of Damage leaving him with 2pts. The Ironclad suffered nothing. The AS from the JWC was up kept on Coleman. Coleman then assigned 3 focus to the Lancer and the Ironclad while the JWC assigned his 2 to the Charger. Coleman then moved back into btb with the Revenger and hit out doing 1pt and disrupting it before being pushed back. The Ironclad then used Tremor in a attempt to get Feora down. I needed a 8 so boosted the roll......8 and Feora was on her arse. The Ironclad the spent his last focus and did 6pts of damage. The lancer then hit into her doing 10pts on its boosted roll taking Feora out of the battle and giving me the game.

Man that was a close game if he had just rolled higher on those Fire continuous effect rolls I would have been toast. Overall it was a awesome game and like always one I seriously enjoyed.

So until next time......
